Bahamas Grid Company to Upgrade and Maintain Grid Infrastructure
Following the Government of the Bahamas’ June 10th 2024 announcement on our nation’s Energy Reform Vision, the Bahamas Grid Company’s focus is to upgrade and maintain the grid infrastructure on New Providence.
Our primary initiative for 2024 and 2025 – called the Foundational Upgrade project – is to make the most critical upgrades that New Providence’s transmission and distribution grids need, so that our system can reliably handle increased customer load and new generation assets, including distributed renewable resources. This work is expected to kick off this Fall when we have full access to New Providence’s grid assets. Progress on this important project will be shared on this site, so make sure to visit often.
In the meantime, the Bahamas Grid Company is making several dozen line workers available on island this summer to support the Government of the Bahamas and BPL with load balancing and outage restoration efforts for the duration of our high summer peak season.
